Charles S. Cohen Debuts DCOTA's Dramatic Redesign - Design Center of the Americas to undergo major renovation program
January 19, 2007

DANIA BEACH, FL—Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) owner Charles S. Cohen is polishing the face of his nationally-renowned, 775,000-square-foot South Florida interior design campus with an unprecedented renovation program.

The project will bring new life to the three existing buildings through a fully integrated design transformation. Dramatic new landscaping, water features, lighting and environmental graphics, together with major architectural changes to the building's interiors, will be undertaken over a four to five year period.

Developer Cohen's design team is comprised of:
Architect: Area Design, Inc.
Environmental Graphics: Pentagram
Landscape Architect: Thomas Balsley and Associates with Mario Nievera Design
Architectural Lighting Designers: Kaplan, Gehring, McCarroll
Water Feature Design: Fluidity Design Consultants

Charles S. Cohen, (Cohen Brothers – New York) is one of the nation’s preeminent developer/owners. He purchased Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in June, 2005 with a vision to reenergize and reorganize this design industry landmark. As owner of three other highly successful American design centers, Mr. Cohen's transformations plans for DCOTA will transform the world's largest design center campus.

"Southern Florida is one of the largest communities in America that supports vacation and second homes, as well as retirement homes," says Cohen. "Given the success we have achieved through the skill talent and vision of our design team in other design centers that we have redeveloped, DCOTA's future as the prominent resource for high end furnishings in this part of the world will be secure."

DCOTA joins New York’s Decoration & Design Building (D&D), Southern California’s Pacific Design Center (PDC) and Decorative Center Houston (DCH) all owned, operated and managed by Mr. Cohen’s firm. As owner, president and chief executive officer of Cohen Brothers Realty Corporation (CRBC), Charles S. Cohen has achieved an enviable national reputation for his exceptional business acumen, innovation and creativity at every turn. Mr. Cohen’s portfolio comprises more than 12 million square feet of prime properties located in New York, Texas, Florida and Southern California.

Mr. Cohen is one of the rare breed of developers with a vision that is clearly and ultimately defined by design. Beyond his mastery of business transactions, he has brought impeccable - and innate - taste and style to a wide range of high-profile projects, from office skyscrapers to corporate parks to his newest passion - Design Centers. While breathing new life into commercial properties, Mr. Cohen has essentially refined the role of "re-developer"; his ability to reposition and maximize the potential of underutilized buildings has allowed him to carve a special niche within his industry.

DCOTA, the premier one-stop shopping source for all types of design needs, is considered the leading resource for fine traditional and contemporary contract and residential furniture, fabrics, architectural products, floor coverings, wall coverings, lighting, kitchen and bath products and accessories.
