DCOTA Competition Pairs
Young Designers with Local Personalities To Create
One-of-a-Kind Looks
November 10, 2006
DANIA BEACH, FL—Cottage elegance with a garden feel is what
South Florida designer Dawn Hamilton envisioned for Palm
Beach socialite Mrs. Leigh Larmoyeux’s sitting room as her
entry for Palm Beach Cottages & Garden’s Design Challenge at
DCOTA, with the latest installment debuting on December 7,
2006.
This is the final installment in a series of four,
one-of-a-kind room creations from South Florida’s hottest
young designers chosen to participate in this competition,
which began in June of 2006 with installments being debuted
over the course of the year. The Design Challenge showcases
examples of traditional, modern and contemporary designs
appealing to South Florida’s savvy, international residents.
Each of the four designers was asked to design a dramatic
custom room, evoking the essence of the personal style of
four pre-eminent Palm Beach tastemakers. Designers were
given free reign in DCOTA to create custom rooms on a
pre-built set.
Understanding Mrs. Larmoyeux’s casual lifestyle and her love
of entertaining outdoors, Hamilton created a sitting room
with an outside look, using cotton, floral and botanical
prints.
"I decided to create a traditional English cottage design,
using a floral print Brunshwig & Fils sofa, F. Schumacher
club chairs in white, and a Patterson, Flynn & Martin
Rosecore needlepoint rug with lattice design," said
Hamilton. "The walls, which are painted a muted fern green
above white wainscoting, highlight the garden elements, such
as an antique wrought-iron side table, a Century
dragonfly-print side chair, and ceramic pieces by E.G. Cody.
Mrs. Larmoyeux has a casual, comfortable, yet elegant style
that really comes across."
Hamilton’s design will debut with a private VIP opening
reception hosted by Palm Beach Cottages & Gardens magazine,
where it will be on view at DCOTA for two weeks. All rooms
will be featured in future issues of Palm Beach Cottages &
Gardens magazine, of which the editors will select the
winner to be announced at the DCOTA 2007 WINTERMARKET.
